This is one of my favourite blog posts of all time from Tavi's blog Style Rookie which i hope you are all reading. I wish I had blogs like Style Rookie when I was a teen to look to for culture inspiration and knowledge that other people where into stuff that I was. Its weird how easily isolated one feels in high school even in the 90s when the internet was around! It was only movies like these that made me feel connected to something special and that weird cool teenage girl thing was a lifestyle choice not just a phase. These movies are also still some of my all time favourites - in fact Heathers will remain my all time favourite movie forever I think.

I also think Girl and Welcome Home Roxy Carmichael would fit really well into this series.

In other musical news x film noir swooning Rita Hayworth is absolutely golden in Gilda. 'Put The Blame on Mame' is one of the best musical numbers I've ever seen.

I also love this softer guitar version from earlier in the film as well.

The Passenger Side

In the Where Are They Now movie files. I'd like to know about The Passenger. Yes Adam Scott may have caught my eye but the soundtrack also looks very good as well as the road movie vibes. Also Gale Harold! I want to see you in more good movies please with bigger roles and possibly better hair.

Also Lukas Haas! I loved his 5 minute return to big time screen time in Inception (almost as much as the Ellen Page x Joseph Gordon Levitt smooch).

Will have to try and track down this stuff - motivation for a move to Canadia?

Tell it Like it is Boss

Hi-Fidelity is up there with some of my favourite comfort movies/books. Something about this film makes me feel like everything is going to be OK - I'm not sure if these things are about time and place (a lot of my comfort movies/books seem to be from 17-19). This Comfort Cannon also includes Almost Famous, Whip It, Virgin Suicides, Igby Goes Down, Reality Bites, Heathers, Girl, Grosse Pointe Blank, The Royal Tenenbaums - you get the idea.

As far as TV shows we are looking My So Called Life or Seinfeld marathon and maybe Season 4 of Six Feet Under - and if things are really dire and dreary I'll go on mental vacay with a 7 season Gilmore Girls marathon - oh yes this is who I am - but don't knock it till you've done it.

There are probably a few more but you'd be pretty safe in saying if it has golden-era Kirsten Dunst, Claire Danes, Winona Ryder and John Cusack and the non-optional awesome soundtrack - I'm gonna be watching it when I'm feeling rough around the edges - bonus points for losers-redeeming themselves!

Also Bruce Springsteen giving me love life advice IS MY DREAM!

Hey remember when I couldn't remember my favourite first kisses? Well I remembered one! Its from All The Real Girls one of my favourite movies of all time (undersung indie yes pls) directed by the amazing David Gordon Green. One long beautiful take with two great actors Paul Schneider and Zooey Deschanel - swoon now!

Yep this is pretty much my fashion vibe in my dreams. Sofia Coppola is like a non-smiling Audrey Hepburn. I don't really want the bag she's advertising for Louis Vuitton - who cares - I just want THAT cape/coat thing and those pants and no boobs so I too can wear round neck white t-shirts without looking like a pregnant mum from the 'burbs.

I really hate tap dance scenes. Natalie Portman in Garden State. Susan Sarandon in Elizabethtown. Even Kate Winslet doing this. Its annoying and very Manic Pixie Dream Girl. I hate that they are pitching Blue Valentine to be another Wimpster meets MPDG scenario because from all reports ITS NOT. Preview makers suck don't they?

For every rule there is an exception - Jamie Bell can tap dance anytime he wants.

I should also mention that musicals are the exception to this rule - this is about non-musicals films that just throw in some tap dancing jus' for the cutesy factor and often its like 'your tap dancing totally sucks anyway'.

Cry Me A River

I actually don't know if I have any crying songs ie songs that make you get all choked up and weepy. I'm actually not much of a bawler when it comes to popular culture, I rarely cry in movies and I can't remember crying to a song ever. Maybe its because I listen to so much sad girly folk I'm immune to its boo-hoo powers.

I am a big fan of cathartic angry-sad songs and Bruce Springsteen writes some awesome ones. 'Darkness on the Edge of Town' is totally one of my faves of these. I'd probably cry some 'rage' tears to this next time the man keeps me down.

Can anyone recommend some 'crying songs'? Or better yet some more cathartic angry-sad songs?
