There are many reasons
Many many reasons that I would like to be at TIFF (Toronto Film Festival) next week. So here's one. I'm sure you figure out the rest.

Do You Love Winona More Than I?
I doubt it.
She's totally my childhood on-screen off-screen icon repping since 1988.
How could anyone take her place?
movie night
The Cement Garden (1993)
An Unmarried Woman (1978)
Lucas (1986)
Pump Up The Volume (1990)

I'm with the band
SUMMER CAMP - Round the Moon from Paddy Power on Vimeo.
well not quite. I've always wanted to be in the band rather than "with" them.
If I had a band I think I'd want them sound like Summer Camp - with either girl x girl vocals or boy x girl vocals channelling Beat Happening - swoon. And the video is scenes from the 1970 Swedish film A Swedish Love Story - my band would totally have film clips made out of cool old films. We'd release nothing but novelty shaped vinyl 7"'s in a rainbow of colours. I have lotsa plans and heapsa potential can't you tell?

All I ever wanted was a little pink house with a blue door
Partly because its been so cold and partly because I've been so lazy I haven't been leaving the house much. Therefore I'm living a bit vicariously through movies at the moment and I've been watching quite a few Winona Ryder classic's including 'Welcome Home Roxy Carmichael' and I officially want to live in a pink house.

Note To Self
I want a fluro sign in my "house" real bad - much better than a blackboard. I wonder what I would get it to say....

How to Kiss by Rick Lupert
I
Locate someone other than yourself.
Make sure they have lips.
II
Find out if the person you've located is agreeable to kissing.
You can do this any way you want, except for asking.
III
Make sure you have your lips with you.
Nothing is more embarrassing than moving to kiss someone
and realizing you've left your lips at home or in the car.
Unless you happen to be in the car,
where you can slyly move to adjust the radio,
slapping on your lips during the confusion.
IV
Tell the person their eyes make you want to do gymnastics,
or at least be present where gymnastics are being done.
V
Touch the hand.
Any Hand.
Not your own hand.
VI
Lean your head forward at a slight angle (such as fifteen degrees)
so your foreheads will connect first
as if you're attempting a Vulcan mind meld.
If your minds actually begin to meld MILK IT.
VII
Slowly re-angle your head so your lips become parallel with his or hers.
Practice this ahead of time using a protractor.
VIII
Allow your lips to make contact with the other lips
BUT DON'T MOVE THEM.
Remain completely still for twenty-eight minutes
or until you hear an electronic beeping
indicating it is time to move to step nine.
This time may vary depending on political climate
and lip gloss.
IX
Repeat steps five through eight.
X
Clear your head
so the only thing you can focus on
is a PBS special on the clitoris.
XI
Begin moving your lips in a slow up and down fashion,
varying with left and right motions every fifteen seconds.
XII
Force your tongue through your subject's lips and teeth.
Fight past their tongue.
Charge forward until you reach the uvula.
Kissing is just an intimate game of Capture the Uvula.
XIII
Abandon all tenderness
with reckless nibbling
of anything fleshy you encounter.
XIV
Congratulations!
You are now kissing.
XV
Imagine life as a Frenchman.
Make sure they have lips.

Like a Boss
Oh yes, Bruce Springsteen. I first discovered Bruce Springsteen as an emo teenager reading Elizabeth Wurtzel's 'Prozac Nation' she loved Bruce so much she went to Nebraska to get closer to him and just got more depressed. But thats besides the point - Bruce gets ridden off a lot but the man has written some of my favourite songs of all time, performed some of my favourite covers and he co-wrote Patti Smith's only "hit" 'Because The Night'. Plus he's still writing amazing songs in his grey years which is more than you can say for most artists. PlusPlus he was (and still kinda is) a total fox.

Music to read to....
I've recently become obsessed with reading music - as in finding the perfect background noise for reading because I hate silence but can't deal with lyrics when reading. Philip Glass for The Hours is totally perfect - repetitive, a touch melodramatic and no words. This combo seems to work really well - also it took me ages to find.
I Only Mark the Hours that Shine.
I'm a pretty big Grey Garden's fan and of both Big and Little Edie Beale - so I was totally ecstatic when I heard that Little Edie's diaries were being published.
If you haven't seen Grey Garden's by the genius Maysles Brother's you have to right now - honestly you'll just die of happiness - and then you should see Beales of Grey Gardens and then see the HBO version - I was terrified it was going to be awful but its not!
Then to thank me for introducing you to the wonders of the Edie's you can buy me I Only Mark the Hours that Shine here.

Everyone getting their blog on....
It seems like everyone I know is getting their blog on but I wanted to do a special shout out to Katherine whose blog As We Go Along is super-owning and I'm stealing/loving/starring/hearting so many of her awesome images I thought I owed her some props. Heres a small sampling of the radness going down in gif form.

So gone....
New Perfume Genius(!) and an awesome Best Coast song that wasn't on the album - do you love it? Well its pretty obvious that I love these two way too much at the moment - semi-repetitive brainwashing style posting much?
Just to get the point stabbing right through your brain I'm doing another mix on Mixtapes for Johanna soon (AKA Thursday) that features the both of them - I'm excited.
BeeTeeDubs I updated Mixtapes for Johanna last week with 2 new mixes (with one from Johanna for me - aw BFF for Lyfe) if you haven't checked them out yet they are rad - at least I think so.

Mad Men Vibes
UNITED STATES-Grey Advertising, 1959
NEW YORK CITY-Grey Group Advertising, 1959
NEW YORK CITY—A literary cocktail party at George Plimpton's Upper East Side apartment. Plimpton is seated at left with literary agent Maggie Abbott next to him. At top, left to right: Jonathan Miller, Gore Vidal, Ricky Leacock, Robert Laskey, and Paul Heller. In background, left to right: Ralph Ellison and Peter Matthiessen. Center: Walter Bernstein (seated on couch with back to camera), Sydney Lumet (behind Bernstein to right), Mario Puzo (leaning against mirror), Jack Richardson (tall man, front, right foreground), Arthur Kopit (foreground, right), Frank Perry (left of Kopit), Eleanor Perry (left of Frank), Arthur Penn (obscured behind Eleanor), and Truman Capote (center on couch), 1963.
Mad Men is back on TV (if you watch all your TV on the internerdz anyway) and Don Draper has gone all desperado vibes and I'm all obsesso with the late 50s again - can we bring some dogs to our next brainstorming session pls?

“The sick do not ask if the hand that smoothes their pillow is pure, nor the dying care if the lips that touch their brow have known the kiss of sin.”
I've been sick - not dying - but who doesn't love a good melodramatic Oscar Wilde quote to kick things off?
Anyway I've managed to churn through a disgusting amount of tv in these few days of being bed ridden. I thought I'd share my two new favourite shows - one cancelled and one not (keep the dream alive).
Michael and Michael have Issues
I want to hang out with both of these guys forever - who the hell cancelled this show?!!?!
BeeTeeDubs I've been living in sweatpants.
Huge - This show is basically coming of age at fat camp - totally adorbs. I was going to post the trailer but it is so awful and completely misrepresents the show in a really commercial tv network kinda way. Which is a pity - because this show is awesome.
I've also been watching Pretty Little Liars but I'm not going to recommend anyone who isn't sick to do that.

ENTER THE VOID
These are the opening credits for Enter the Void - they are incredible. I loved the film as well but I love a lot of films that people say they need to be stoned for (not that I've ever been a stoner). I really wish I had seen this film at aged 15 - I think I would have totally loved it even more at that age.

“When I go out with the ladies, I don't force them to pronounce my name. I tell them I like to go by the nickname of Kitten.”
How amazing is the new poster for the Joaquin Phoenix movie/doco 'I'm Still Here'?
Remember when he and Casey where in 'To Die For' together?
I doubt the movie will live up to the beautiful poster but we'll all get to see as its been picked up by Magnolia pictures - official site here - its in theatres in the States Sept 10 after premiering at the Venice Film Festival.
BeeTeeDubs - The whole Venice Film Festival line up this year is totally off the hook - little Coppola's 'Somewhere', new Vincent Gallo, Kelly Reichardt, Darren Aronofsky (will the curse of Natalie Portman prevail?), Francois Ozon , Tom Twyker etc etc
Best Movies You've Never Seen #10
Zero Effect (1998) - Jake Kasdan
I love Bill Pullman - I was in a movie recently that hit a lull and Bill Pullman randomly showed up in the film for 5 minutes and people literally cheered. I love Ben Stiller too but not quite as much. Anyway Zero Effect is like a 90s Sherlock Holmes with an awesome soundtrack.
my saddle jump on it
I need to get some saddle shoes - been looking for ages! Why are these babies so hard to find?
