“Why does man kill? He kills for food. And not only food: frequently there must be a beverage.”

Grigons & Orr Corner Store - Corner of Queensberry & Chetwynd St North
Melbourne. Tues-Sat 7am - 7pm. All day b/fast and lunch.

Every 2nd shop front in North Melbourne seems be a café – which begs the question - why is it so hard to choose a breakfast spot there on a Saturday morning? No one place seems to please everyone all the time - ok maybe just me but can't somewhere just have good coffee, food, clientele and decor - is that 2 much to ask? Luckily a new and delightful alternative has opened up the ‘Grigons & Orr Corner Store’ – which so far through randomised friend testing has proved to be a winner.

It ticks almost every box any Melbourne inner city cafe connessieur could put forward. Great coffee (note: Bonsoy option), and a great mix of great comfort food with a gourmet touch. Theres everything from heart-stoppingly good apple fritters to sausage rolls on offer at this one stop shop. Yes now you can enjoy a decent latte and a Chiko roll all in the soothing surrounds of old school milk bar kitsch - as well as other standards such ricotta pancakes and baked eggs.

However its not all about the food and the coffee though is it? No its the extra’s that make this Corner Store your new favourite hang out – its the 5 different kinds of spiders (including ginger beer yay), cat face sugar bowls and a well stocked wall of take home goodies such as glitter glue and farm fresh butter (among other pantry essentials) that make it a cosy home away from home (in which to nurse your Saturday morning hangover) and an all round friend pleaser.

Now we have somewhere open on Sundays - till 7pm too! Its lifted the curse of the North Melbourne Sunday arvo death knell of 3pm when all cafes close their kitchens!
