I saw two shooting stars last night, I wished on them, but they were only satellites.

2011 Summer Adventures

Though I'm about to start an intense job at a most awesome film festival on Monday, I'm determined to not let the Summer of 2011 pass me by! So I've come up with (and borrowed from others) a lovely list of Summer Adventures to complete by mid-August (cause I will be too busy after that). My activities are pretty generica (and/or helvetica) so if you have any suggestions please - I'm an adventure canvas in need of some more colour!

Wild Water Kingdom (water slides!)

High park (tree climbing, book reading, bike riding, cherry blossoms picnic etc)

Niagra Falls (day and night pls)

Toronto Islands Bike Tour

Walk from Leslieville to the Beaches and try Ed's Real Scoop Gelato at the beginning and the end!

Horse riding!

Road Trip to see John Water's Absentee Landlord in Minneapolis (may be a post summer more spring time event)

NXNE (Dum Dum Girls, Twin Shadow etc)

Paradoxes of Innovation talk by Malcolm Gladwell @ Luminato Festival

Garage Sale's to decorate my new room!

Then its on to Spring - Nuit Blanche, Road Trip to the West Coast and more!

"It’s the village girl who will change the world."

I just raced through Kelly Cutrone's book 'If You Have to Cry Go Outside' and it was totally amazing. I'm reading so many increds memoirs (of sorts) this year - John Waters, Patti Smith, Sarah Silverman etc - that have really resonated with me. I can't recommend this book enough its such a great read and Cutrone speaks in such a unique voice. Though I don't agree with everything she says, I still felt like I got so much out of it. She's kind of like the cool tough aunt or older sister you wish you had - the one that gives you records and buys you condoms or something.

Also now I'm kind of obsessed with her. I want her to be my life coach, and I'm super jello of Marrisa Meltzer's life coach style interview with Ms Cutrone that you can also read here.

Best Movies You've Never Seen #12

Flannel Pajamas (2006) - Jeff Lipsky

This film feels like it was made in the 90s - which is about as high a compliment as I can give. Not quite up to the dialogue of that period but it does have that great low budget feel and relationship focus that just makes me shiver all over. My movie turn-ons include - overly talky (preferably relationship focused), low budget aesthetic and brunette leads. Flannel PJ's ticks dem boxes.

HelloGiggles

I'm already totally stoked about the new girls site ya just gotta click on - HelloGiggles! Perfect example is this ridic simple nail art how-to. How many times have I ooh-ed over leopard print nails - never knowing how simple they were. So simple in fact that someone as. "meh 2 hard basket" as me could do it. Next time you see me I'll be totally rocking this.

im so pretty like, be on my pedal bike,

The other weekend I rode a bike in the city for the first time - ok that city was Montreal the easiest city in the world to bike around and it was a Bixi, not my own bike - but anyways I'm super happy with myself. I feel empowered to get my own pedal monster for the summer - and perhaps some makeshift L plates, just in case.

Happy Endings

I finally found a new TV show I like! The premise sounds awful and so does this preview thingie I just posted. Don't let this stop you - like it did me initially - from giving this show a whirl. The first two episodes are terrible as well. I'm being honest and telling you know. I skipped them, in fact I started with the 6th episode and worked my forward and then back again. I have high hopes for the rest of the Happy Endings season - its pretty tight, well written (read funny and amusing) and not too sitcommy (no laugh track). Also its not Friends - and for that we can all be grateful - at least till the really good TV comes back.

Children of Marx and Coca-Cola

I don't know what it is with me and tote bags. Slap a photo of Karl Lagerfeld or a Sonic Youth album cover on it, and I'm literally shoving my money into your hand.

So far (and god knows how) I've resisted the Woody Allen and Winona Ryder ones. Methinks nothing worthy as yet perhaps? Although I couldn't resist a throwback FREE WINONA if one ever surfaced.

Long story short - I bought the 1st tote bag. I also bought it cause I wanted to post about it but was scared the "hundreds" of people who read my blog might buy it. Logic!

I also had had to physically restrain myself, from also buying the second - in a MOST practical shade of black. Why do we so rarely see black totes? Creamy totes get super-dirty super-quick yo!

To surmise - more black totes and Godard tote bags in general pls.

PS you can buy me the black one from here.

PPS can someone do a Woody Allen one in his signature font pls?

That's okay. See me, I'm kinda into ugly... But only if it's sexy ugly.

Danny McBride

Louis CK

Mark Duplass

Maybe ugly-sexy actually means "not conventionally beautiful but very funny and charismatic".

I can't believe I ate the whole thing

Succesful Alcholics

I love this - its the kind of short film I can get behind. I hope the future of VOD means more stuff like this.

Also I'm very hungover and kinda hate how perfect Lizzy Caplan's hair is while she's drunk. When I'm hungover my hair always looks like I've been for a 5k run that morning, when of course its the opposite.

Hot Docs

Somewhere to Disappear

Wild Horses, Wild Ride

Who Took The Bomp? Le Tigre on Tour

I can't stress enough - if you have the chance to see any of these films - please take it!

They are totally magical documentaries, and the very best films I saw at Hot Docs festival 2011.

Random Jams

You might have guessed that I'm currently sifting through months of music to make a new mixtape or two - stay tuned!
